The idea of Work Camp with Young People

The concept of work camp is (1) to involve young people of colleges and universities in social work practically in a camp and (2) to make the structure of EKMATTRA Academy by direct physical and mental labor.

Arranging work-camp is a unique idea of EKMATTRA where hundreds of youth and conscious citizens will be involved to establish a children academy in Haluaghat, Mymensingh. The idea is not only to involve people in social work and to reduce its cost but also to create an example that will motivate the nation to promote charitable work for the underprivileged community.

EKMATTRA has designed the work-camp into three phases. In first phase we will start a campaign with our film screening and collect members for work camp. After this registration phase the second step will be arranging the work-camp, in this phase we will take the registered volunteers to the academy location and start physical involvement to build the academy. Third phase will be arranged after the completion of academy. EKMATTRA will arrange a program, publish a souvenir on work camp’s successful venture and award certificates among the campers/volunteers.

1st Phase: film screening and registration phase:
In this phase we will start the film screening of ‘Je Shohor Chorabali’ in 8 important districts specifically at Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barisal, Mymensingh, Rangpur, Comilla and Narayanganj. In each venue of film screening, we will make a registration booth. After watching the movie, the viewers can register themselves as a volunteer to ensure their physical presence to build the academy for underprivileged children in Haluaghat. The campaign will start on 1st January 2010 and it will continue up to 25th March and within this time frame the team will work to register 2,000 volunteers from more than 30,000 audiences.

2nd Phase: physical involvement:
From January 25 to April 25 the work camp will take place to Haluaghat, Mymensingh. Every week we will take 40 volunteers to the location of academy from Dhaka. Every member has to come to the starting point of the journey on their own. EKMATTRA along with the sponsor will arrange the major transportation from Dhaka to Haluaghat. The first team will start at the morning of 25 January and they will stay four days in the place of construction. After 4 days, they will be back and the second team will start for the location. This means we will arrange twenty four trips in three months and twenty four teams will work for the academy.

During the time when the volunteers will stay at Academy they will work according to the plan of architects. At the very beginning when volunteers will reach the location, they will join an orientation workshop about their activity and responsibility. The workshop will be conducted by in-charge architect, site engineer and EKMATTRA official. EKMATTRA officials will inform them about the rules and duties of workshop and other technical person will teach the volunteer about technical knowhow in details.

3rd Phase: recognition and celebration:
The 3rd phase of work-camp will be arranged after the completion of the construction of academy. Before starting the activity of the academy EKMATTRA will arrange a program to recognize the effort of the volunteers by giving them certificates. In this same program one souvenir will be distributed that will contain the facts and report of the work-camp. Government representative, journalist, representative from donor agencies and the volunteers (freelance or of partner organizations) will be invited to celebrate the tremendous achievements of combined charitable effort.
